As of the week of December 22nd to 28th, there were 198 new lab confirmed influenza cases. During that week the vast majority, at 159, were Type A Influenza. Since September 1st there have been 535 lab confirmed cases in Saskatchewan. In the week prior to Christmas Chief medical health officer Dr. Saqib Shahab indicated influenza season was hitting just in time for the holiday season.
Nine people were admitted to ICU since the beginning of the flu season and there have been five deaths. There have been a total of 17 outbreaks in long term care facilities since September 1st.
107 of those impacted by flu were pre-school, 110 were school age, 175 were working adults and 143 cases have affected senior citizens.
