The City of Saskatoon is continuing to work towards its future transportation corridors that will one day become home of bus rapid transit along with transit villages that will create hubs of activity where transit, home work and entertainment intersect.
New reports on the transit villages and the City’s Corridor Transformation Plan will be presented to the City’s committee on planning, development and community services Tuesday morning.
The Corridor Transformation Plan is part of the Growth Plan to Half a Million which is intended to help in allowing the city the grow both outward and with infill development along the corridors which include both 22nd Street and the downtown core.
Executive Director of the Downtown BID, Brent Penner says he welcomes infill development as it’s better to see store fronts kept full and not empty.
Penner adds with infill development, service times from those such as first responders wouldn’t be as greatly impacted.
The goal of the Corridor Transformation Plan is to set the stage for turning for turning busy roads like 8th Street into places where people want to stay.
Transit villages are planned to be implemented at five locations across the city including The Centre Mall and the Confederation Suburban Centre.
