Saskatoon Fire and Police Departments were on the scene of a house fire last night (tues) on the 17 hundred block of Avenue C North. Traffic restrictions went up as fire fighters battled the blaze around eight o’clock. Heavy flames were flashing out from several basement windows of the raised bungalow. Crews attacked the fire through the windows but the main floor had already been extensively damaged and there was no way to enter the building from the main floor. An initial report that there may have been one person inside proved false. There were many voids in the walls and wood chip insulation which made it difficult to extinguish all of the hot spots but crews managed to prevent the fire from entering the attic. It took just over three hours to bring the blaze under control. Two more engines had to respond to relieve exhausted crews who also had to deal with the extreme cold. One fire fighter was sent to hospital with a minor puncture wound. There is no cause or damage estimate yet.
