A new online publication titled “Animal Memories” includes stories about inmates at five Correctional Service Canada facilities and their interactions with animals along with research from those at the University of Regina and University of Saskatchewan.
Colleen Dell, a professor at the U of S says they wanted to start a conversation about the idea and practice of having inmates interact with animals.
She adds they heard multiple stories from those at the five correctional facilities including Drumheller who have had the opportunity to spend sometime with animals while serving their sentence.
Dell says the stories they heard ranged from the importance of having a dog while growing up to animals that they have waiting at home for them today.
