As cold as its been this week, the all-time record for power consumption in Saskatchewan was not broken.
SaskPower spokesman Joel Cherry says it came close on Tuesday evening (Jan. 14).
“During the evening peak, which is kind of right when people are getting home and, you know, are firing up their ovens and heaters and that sort of thing and we still have an industrial load that is pretty high at the same time, it was at 3,722, so within 70 megawatts of the record.”
The benchmark is 3,792 megawatts that was set in December, 2017.
Cherry says they are prepared to meet the demand.
“If we’re struggling to meet capacity, we can also import power from our neighbours so this week we’ve imported power from Manitoba, Alberta and from the United States.” (CJGX)
