The leader of Saskatchewan’s official opposition has sent a letter to the Premier about the lock-out at the Federated Co-op Refinery in Regina. Ryan Meili says there needs to be a resolution because of escalations in tensions and the growing concern over safety. He asked Scott Moe to join him in calling on Federated Co-op to agree to return to the bargaining table.
Premier Scott Moe responded in a letter saying the government is encouraging both sides to return to the table. The Minister of Labour Relations and Workplace Safety has confirmed that an Occupational Health and Safety inspection was completed this month with no notice of contravention issued at the time.
Minister Don Morgan says earlier today (Tues), he spoke with officials from both sides to urge getting back to the bargaining table. Morgan also reinforced the expectation that any action taken during this labour dispute be lawful and peaceful.
As far as public safety at locations where job action is taking place, Moe says his government supports the Regina Police Service and all law enforcement entities in upholding the law.
