Federated Co-operatives Limited says the labour disruption at the Refinery Complex in Regina has expanded to FCL’s fuel terminal in Carseland, Alberta southeast of Calgary.
In a news release, FCL says on Friday, Unifor members blocked fuel trucks at the terminal in Carseland, which carries fuel destined for Co-op gas bars in Alberta and British Columbia. Unifor members have barricaded the front of the Co-op Refinery Complex, blocking trucks from entering and has erected fencing blockades around co-op sites 3 times since January 10th.
Unifor Local 594 has been picketing outside the refinery since being locked out on December 5th. The major sticking point is the employer wants to change the pension plan, and the union wants to keep their defined benefit plan where employees don’t contribute. FCL wants employees to contribute 11 per cent.
