A fire Sunday afternoon on the third floor of a 13 story apartment building was extinguished by the building’s sprinkler system. The Saskatoon Fire Department was called out around 3:20 to the building at 530 25th Street East. They evacuated most residents who were housed at the YWCA while crews went to work. Heavy smoke was detected on the third floor and the fire, which by then was out, was confined to one apartment. Smoke and toxic gases were ventilated and water damage minimized. Most of the estimated $100 thousand in damage was from the water. The cause was determined to be a candle which ignited stationary on a desk.
