The federal NDP will be re-introducing anti-scab legislation in the House of Commons, pointing to the situation between the Co-op Refinery and locked out Unifor members, where replacement workers were being brought in by helicopter.
In 2010, Justin Trudeau voted for anti-scab legislation while in opposition, but in 2016, the Liberals voted against NDP legislation that would ban the use of replacement workers.
Labour Critic Scott Duvall says while the current conflict in Saskatchewan is under provincial jurisdiction, the use of replacement workers is a problem across the country and he believes the federal government needs to show some leadership on the issue.
Both Quebec and British Columbia have anti-scab legislation.
