Those at the University of Regina that had trips planned to China through the university will have a tough time doing so.
The U of R has cancelled all centrally-organized and funded trips to China for the next three months. Any University-sponsored and organized China trips being taken by students, staff, researchers or faculty will need Dean’s approval. Students and staff taking personal travel to China will not be impacted.
Spokesperson Paul Dederick explains the 2 restrictions.
The first is official university business, which has been cancelled.
The second pertains to faculty, researchers and students who want to travel to China.
Dederick says they can’t tell them not to go, but they would need Dean’s approval and a full risk mitigation plan.
It is not known how many China trips are being impacted by these precautions, which come after 76 deaths from the Coronavirus and two confirmed cases in Canada.
