Dual sport athlete Gordon Garvie excelled at both football and wrestling for the Huskies back in the 1960s. Garvie was a three-time national University champion on the mat, helping lead the Saskatchewan wrestling team to multiple conference titles. On the gridiron, Garvie was a three-time Western Intercollegiate Football League all-star and was the W-I-F-L’s leading scorer in 1967…which also earned him M-V-P honours. Wrestling great Garvie enters Hall of Fame

EDMONTON – The definition of multi-talented, Gordon Garvie was a standout student-athlete during the 1960s at the University of Saskatchewan, where his awesome ability on the gridiron was eclipsed only by his mastery on the mat.
The Huskie great was announced Thursday as the latest inductee in the Canada West Hall of Fame, becoming the conference’s 93rd honouree during the inaugural class.
As a member of Saskatchewan’s wrestling team, Garvie won multiple conference titles, and was a three-time national university champion. Meanwhile, he was a three-time Western Intercollegiate Football League all-star, and won MVP honours in 1967 when he was the conference’s leading scorer.
Internationally Garvie competed as a lightweight in both Greco-Roman and Freestyle wrestling at the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City, advancing to the third and second round, respectively. In 1969 he became Canadian champion and went on to wrestle at the World Championships.
