A Saskatoon man who has made a difference not only in Saskatoon, but internationally, has passed away.
Saskatoon’s Mayor offers condolences to Peter Zakreski’s wife Elaine, to the Zakreski family and all of those whose lives have been touched by the humanitarian, sports organizer and philanthropist.
Charlie Clark says the city has lost an incredible community builder.
He was recognized as a Member of the Order of Canada among other honours.
Zakreski was on the organizing committees for events like the 1979 Western Canada Summer Games, the 1989 Canada Summer Games and the 1991 World Junior Hockey Championships in Saskatoon.
He and his wife Elaine began the Hope For Malawi Foundation, which helps communities with projects like a medical clinic, a safe water supply, school rooms or sustainable agriculture.
Peter Zakreski died this morning (Wed) at the age of 80.
