Just after 5:30 Saturday afternoon, Saskatoon Police responded to a shoplifting complaint in the 300 block of 33rd Street West.
In a news release, police say a male and a female were stopped for shoplifting by the Loss Prevention Officer on duty.
The male then pulled out a hatchet and the two fled.
Police were able to located and arrest the two suspects.
A 28 year-old man from Alberta is facing a number of charges including assault with a weapon and a 27 year-old Alberta woman is facing a charge of theft under $5000.
The Loss Prevention Officer was not injured.
