Statistic Canada says the value of building permits fell 15 per cent in December in Saskatchewan. Nationally, the value rose 7.4 per cent. Four other provinces were in negative territory. All were bigger drop,as than ours except for Newfoundland and Labrador which was slightly less than ours at 14.8 per cent. December to December, the value plummeted about 51 per cent in Saskatchewan. That was by far, the worst showing of the provinces but not the only number in the negatives; five other provinces were also there. Nationally, values were off 1.8 per cent.
The total value of building permits was down in the Saskatoon census metropolitan area; about 11 per cent month-to-month and about 47 per cent year-to-year. The total for all CMAs was an increase of 17 per cent November to December and a drop of 1.4 per cent from the year before.
