Fair tax treatment of family succession, lowering payroll taxes, and reducing red tape are some of the priorities from the CFIB leading up to the federal government’s budget.
The Canadian Federation of Independent Business is urging all parties to put forward policies that would make it more affordable to run a small business.
CFIB president, Dan Kelly, says with an aging population, succession is a growing concern for small business owners, many of whom want to sell to their children.
The organization would like to see family members included in the Lifetime Capital Gains Exemption.
The CFIB would also like to see credit card processing fees on GST nixed, which is estimated would save merchants in total up to $500-million per year.
Another issue is increasing CPP premiums, making it more costly to hire and retain employees.
