Speeder Dundurn
Sunday evening, Saskatoon Police Service said officers from the Combined Traffic Services of Saskatchewan spotted a vehicle near Dundurn doing 162 kilometres an hour. That ticket cost the drive $820 and the truck is impounded for more than seven days because it was driven more than 50 km/h over the speed limit.
Saskatoon Makes Forbes List
Saskatoon has made it to Forbes Magazine “Canada’s Top 7 Under the Radar Foodie Destinations you need to visit.” Winnipeg, Victoria, St. John’s, Quebec City, Hamilton and Edmonton aslo make the list. The author’s description includes “one of the few cities to do farm-to-table as well as Saskatoon.” The article also points to Saskatoon as having one of the youngest populations in Canada.
Gas Prices and Coronavirus
Average retail gasoline prices in Saskatoon have fallen 1.5 cents a litre in the past week according to gasonline price website GasBuddy.com. Some gas stations have regular unleaded as low as $1.05.9 per litre. Patrick DeHaan, head of petroleum analysis for GasBuddy says the nation’s gas prices continue to fall to fresh lows as coronavirus fears “continue to put a choke-hold on oil prices.” DeHaan says most provinces saw their averages decline in the last seven days and he says with the continued worries of economic slowdown due to the spread of coronavirus, he doesn’t think the impact to oil is done yet, and motorists will likely see another week of lower gas prices.
Three Children Sent to Hospital in Fatal Alberta Crash
One man is dead and five others, including two children and a baby, were injured in an accident northwest of Edmonton. It was a head on crash between two SUV’s late Sunday afternoon and Morinville RCMP say the accident happened on Highway 44 near Township Road 535. The driver of one of the vehicles, a 25 year old man, was pronounced dead at the scene. A woman and baby in the same vehicle was taken to hospital with serious injuries and two children as well as a woman in the other vehicle were also taken to hospital.
Morinville RCMP say icy road conditions and gusty winds were reported at the time of the crash.
Missing Person Report Becomes a Plane Crash
What began as a missing person report led police to the discovery of a plane wreck on the runway of the Merritt B.C. Airport just after midnight (mon). RCMP found the missing man trapped in the wreckage of a small plane. The Merritt Fire Department and BC Emergency Health Services were brought in in to help. A man in his 60’s was pulled out and rushed to hospital with serious injuries. The man’s condition is unknown. Transport Canada has been advised of the incident.
Bridge Sabotaged in BC
Somebody cut the support beams of a bridge in northern BC. RCMP say they also loosened some bolts. The sabotage was discovered last Friday. RCMP say it was a clear attempt the cause the bridge to fail when vehicles travelled over it. An engineer advised police that the bridge wasn’t even safe for foot traffic. Repairs were made over the weekend. The criminal investigation into the incident continues.
