The group of Saskatchewan urban and rural municipal leaders struck to take western concerns to the federal government will meet today (Mon) with Liberal cabinet ministers.
Saskatoon Mayor Charlie Clark is urban co-chair of the Western Economic Task Force.
He says they will address four key areas with the Ottawa delegation including Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland.
Clark points out the task force has recommendations on reducing marketplace barriers facing Saskatchewan producers and manufacturers as well as promoting diversification.
The task force also wants to make climate change workable for the oil and gas industry while taking issues surrounding taxation and infrastructure to the cabinet ministers.
Clark feels it’s crucial the task force remain united and doesn’t get caught up in internal disputes between the provinces and stresses it will be up to the federal government to seriously consider implementing their recommendations.
The meeting takes place in Leduc Alberta.
