Five finalists will present their business pitches tonight (Thurs) to a panel of judges, in hopes of winning up to $10-thousand in startup funds.
Enactus is an international non profit that strives to make the world better through entrepreneurial action and the University of Saskatchewan chapter, as one of its annual projects, organizes an Indigenous Youth Idea Challenge.
Spokesperson Jenna Broderick says they go to Indigenous communities to look for youth between the ages of 16 and 25 who may be interested in starting a business.
From November to January, there are 8 weekend workshops to take participants through the process of figuring out what business would work and how to run it.
The final workshop is learning how to pitch the idea to investors or a financial institution.
Broderick says that includes what is called the ‘elevator pitch’ where you sum up your business in under a minute.
Some winners from previous years are Neechie Gear, Bannock Express and SheNative.
