Premier Scott Moe is disappointed with the lack of support the Prime Minister is giving the RCMP and says the protests over an LNG pipeline in Northern BC is putting a strain on the RCMP and local police forces.
He says he sees nothing in the Prime Minister’s comments that indicates he is interested in the RCMP enforcing the law in our nation.
The Saskatchewan economy is also feeling the affect of the protest. With several trains being blocked across the nation, products from Saskatchewan can’t be shipped to port cities for export.
Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe says with a lack of federal leadership in addressing rail blockades, he has convened a conference call today of Canada’s premiers. Moe is Chair of the Council of the Federation.
Moe describes the rail blockades as ongoing illegal activity. They started with some of the hereditary chiefs of the Wet’suwet’en First Nation who oppose a natural gas pipeline going through their land. The rail blockades have spread across Canada forcing CN Rail to shut down eastern operations and VIA Rail to halt rail traffic. (CKRM/vf)
