Today (Mon) begins the public inquest into the death of a 30 year old man who was found unresponsive in his cell at the Saskatchewan Penitentiary and later pronounced dead at the hospital in May of 2017.
Curtis Cozart was serving a 28 month sentence following a standoff with Moose Jaw Police officers in 2016.
He was charged with assault with a weapon, theft under $5-thousand, obstructing a police officer and failing to comply with a probation order.
An inquest is held any time there is a death at a jail or correctional facility, unless the coroner is satisfied the death was entirely due to natural causes and wasn’t preventable.
The week long inquest begins at 10 this morning (Mon) at the Coronet Hotel in Prince Albert.
