The Fraser Institute says that, for the first time in 10 years, no Canadian jurisdiction ranks in the top 10 of investment attractiveness according to international mining executives and investors. The survey ranks 76 jurisdictions around the world based on geologic attractiveness and government policies that encourage or deter exploration and investment. Saskatchewan remains Canada’s most attractive jurisdiction, ranking 11th on this year’s survey; quite a drop from last year’s position of number three. The closest province to us is Ontario, ranking 16th. Alberta is back in 30th spot. Saskatchewan received low marks because of taxes, regulatory duplication and inconsistencies, and trade barriers.
