Ever wonder why people choose not to vote in a federal election? Statistics Canada says 77 per cent of Canadians reported voting in the election last fall. That was about the same as in 2015. The number of voters in Saskatchewan actually increased four percent. Saskatchewan has seen a steady increase in interest. In 2011, the turnout rate was 69 per cent, 77 per cent in 2015 and 81 per cent in 2019. As for the 23 per cent who didn’t cast a ballot, the top reason was – not interested ; stated by 35 per cent. This was the most common response for all age groups except for those aged 75 and older who cited illness or disability. One in five said they were just too busy. In Saskatchewan, 44 per cent said they didn’t vote because of everyday life or health reasons. 40 per cent said, for political reasons.
