The Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra is presenting the North American debut of a piece from a British composer in her 30s.
Rebecca Dale completed her first musical when she was 10 and her first concerto at 15.
Materna Requiem also features the Saskatoon Symphony Chorus and 4 solo artists, including 2 high school girls – Kennedy Siba and Emma Gillingham.
Siba says her dream is to have a career in performance and voice.
She has been practicing since the piece was handed over to her at the end of January and although she has been involved in lots of live productions, this one is different because it’s with the symphony and it’s a North American premiere, so she is a bit nervous.
Materna Requiem is about the relationship between a mom and a child.
It’s a tribute from the composer to her late mother.
The Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra and guests perform next Saturday at TCU Place.
