The 2020 Saskatchewan Blue Cross Go Out and Play Challenge is coming to a close for another year.
33 communities who have signed up for the challenge have until Tuesday to record the most physical activity minutes for a shot at winning the grand prize of $10 thousand dollars for a project that gets kids and families out to play.
Kim Herperger, a spokesperson with in motion says Pilot Butte won the grand prize last year after logging more than 420 thousand minutes of activity.
She says they’re putting their money towards a new spray park. Since 2012 when the challenge began, winning communities have used the prize money for a number projects.
“We’ve had communities that have used their winnings for skateboard parks, trials, swimming pool upgrades, just a variety of things.” says Herperger.
As of Wednesday, Herperger said that over a million of minutes of activity were already logged.
A number of communities around Saskatoon are taking part in the challenge including Dundurn, Rosthern and two community associations in the city with Rosewood and City Park participating.
The 2020 Go Out and Play Challenge began back on the first of March.
Since 2012, the challenge has awarded $135 thousand dollars to 16 communities across the province.
