It’s my Parting Shot for my Monday Musings…
Brad Gushue is a Brier champion for the third time in four years. On Saturday afternoon, his Newfoundland foursome wasn’t my pick to claim the Canadian men’s curling championship…I figured that if Brendan Bottcher’s Alberta quartet didn’t, finally, break through then it would be Brad Jacobs and his Northern Ontario squad who came roaring back from a 1-and-3 start and survived two draws of tie-breakers just to make the Page Playoffs!
By the way, it is fair now to call the Bottcher foursome the “Buffalo Bills” of Canadian men’s curling with their three consecutive losses in the final!
As for Matt Dunstone’s Regina quartet, they did Saskatchewan proud. A third place finish is nothing to sneeze at…especially considering the strength of this year’s field! Yes, the drought lives on going into Year 41 with Saskatchewan having not won a Brier!!
Is there a better name for a trophy than the “Bronze Baby”, awarded to the champions of Canadian university women’s basketball. Congratulations to head coach Lisa Thomaidis, her staff and the players for winning a second national title in U of S history!
Speaking of winning a second Canadian championship, the puck is now in your end of the ice Dave Adolph and the Hustlin’ Huskies men’s hockey team. The University Cup starts Thursday in Halifax!
That’s my Parting Shot, I’m Les Lazaruk…
