Fire Department/ Medavie Quarantines Some Staff
The Saskatoon Fire Department has put Fire Station No. 4 under a precautionary quarantine. At 10:02 pm on Wednesday night, fire fighters responded to a medical call for a patient experiencing shortness of breath. It became known that the patient was to be tested for COVID-19. The quarantine of four staff members is a precautionary measure and will remain in effect until COVID-19 test results can be obtained. When the Fire Department says Fire Station No. 4 is under quarantine it means four people but all the equipment is being deployed as needed with other staff out of Fire Station No. 1.
The 2 paramedics that transferred the Saskatoon patient with presumptive COVID-19 were originally told to go home and self-isolate, but after a conversation with the Medical Health Officer, the situation has been down-graded to self-monitoring instead of isolation.
Spokesperson for Medavie Health Services, Troy Davies, says they contacted by the physician group at St. Paul’s Hospital Wednesday night after the call and were told they were going to treat the patient as a COVID-19 patient.
The ambulance was pulled from the street and decontaminated.
