The North Saskatoon Business Association is postponing all scheduled network events, including the 23rd annual Business Builder Awards events running from March 19th to the 23rd. Executive Director, Keith Moen, says the decision was made as a precaution because of COVID-19.
Two events that have never been cancelled in their history in Saskatchewan’s far northwest are being cancelled because of the threat of COVID-19. Fond du Lac Denesuline First Nation Chief Louie Mercredi says the Athabasca Sector Gathering and the Winter Carnival are being cancelled. Because the First Nation has very limited access to air transportation, Mercredi says if the virus were to reach them, community members would face enormous challenges defending against it.
Other organizations and facilities are urging any attendees to follow the recommendations to keep from getting the virus. That includes the World Trade Center at Prairieland Park, and SIGA Casinos. SIGA is also reminding its employees of safety measures and has increased the frequency of cleaning for high-touch surfaces including slot machines, table games, elevators, handrails and washrooms.
Some of the precautions for the general public include coughing and sneezing etiquette, washing your hands often, avoid touching your face with unwashed hands, and avoid close contact with people who are sick.
The Saskatchewan NDP have implemented a social distancing policy. All of their public gatherings in the next 30 days are postponed and any large meetings will be conducted by teleconference.
