It’s no “April Fools Joke!” The 2020 Broomball National Championships, slated to start April 1 at Merlis Belsher Place, were cancelled back on Sunday due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The silver lining is that the Bruno Axemen are expected to be the hosts for the 2021 Broomball National Championships.
“I’m pretty sure we have two dates (for hosting in 2021),” said Axemen men’s head coach Ray Bender. “Either the March 24th week to the 27th or another choice would be April 14th to the 17th. I’m pretty sure one of those weeks we’d be able to host (at Merlis Belsher Place).”
The Broomball National Championships involve play in three gender divisions…Mixed, Elite Women’s and Elite Men’s. The 2020 event was slated to have 21 total teams with over 350 players taking part between April 1-4. Seven of the 10 provinces had teams entered.
