The Saskatchewan Medical Association has a request for employers: Stop demanding sick notes from your staff and abide by legislation passed on Tuesday removing the requirement for notes during the COVID-19 pandemic. The bill also extends leave to workers during a declared public health emergency. Doctor Carla Holinaty, chair of the SMA’s family practice section says, “Writing sick notes places extra duties on physicians at a time when they are dealing with a public health challenge that is unprecedented.” Holinaty says doctors have limited time and the more than can be done to free that time the better.
