Saskatoon and Regina Home Builder’s Associations are welcoming Saskatchewan’s scaled back 2020-21 budget, after a PST rebate program relating to new housing was introduced.
The program, which will last for three years, provides a PST rebate for new home construction, of up to 42 per cent of the PST paid on a new house contract up to $350,000.
Stu Niebergall President and CEO of the RRHBA says the rebate will allow hard working Saskatchewan citizens, especially young families and newcomers, to fulfill their dream of home ownership . At the same time time providing some much-need relief for the residential construction industry that has shed thousands of jobs in the last few years. The Home Builder’s Associations added that this was not an easy decision for the government and praised Finance Minster Donna Harpauer and her team for listening to their concerns to develop a solution that will bring value to the economy.
The rebate will apply to new homes purchased after March 31, 2020, and before April 1, 2023.
