The number of COVID-19 cases in Saskatchewan continue to rise.
A doctor is among four new cases announced Thursday afternoon.
Dr. Saqib Shahab the province’s Chief Medical Health Officer confirmed Dr. Allan Woo, President of the Saskatchewan Medical Association has the coronavirus.
Woo said in a statement that he was at a bonspiel in Edmonton last week with 50-60 physicians in attendance, that’s where he suspects he caught the virus.
Woo adds he has been self-isolating since Tuesday.
Shahab says health officials in both Alberta and Saskatchewan are investigating to see if there are more cases related to the bonspiel.
More provinces may become involved if it’s determined cases in other provinces are found to be connected to the event.
Shahab says all people at the bonspiel have been alerted and are self-isolation, although it doesn’t mean everyone will be identified as a close contact.
12 out of Saskatchewan’s 20 cases are presumptive and 8 are confirmed.
To date, there have been 2,561 tests conducted in the province for COVID-19.
Alberta announced their first death related to the virus Thursday. The man was in his 60’s and had underlying health conditions.
