Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says the House of Commons will be recalled Tuesday afternoon so that emergency legislation can be passed that will put urgent COVID-19 measures into motion as part of Canada’s $82 billion response to support workers and businesses.
During his daily update Sunday morning, the Prime Minister said flights will continue to try and bring as many Canadians home as they can.
Between Monday and Wednesday, Trudeau said 30 WestJet flights are planned to bring Canadians home. An Air Canada flight from Morocco arrived in Montreal Saturday night, bringing more than 400 Canadians back to the country.
When asked about people who aren’t taking part in social-distancing habits, Trudeau said he recognizes that a number of Canadians are doing what they can to distance themselves from others, although more measures could be taken to ensure more residents distance themselves.
“We will continue to look at possible next steps that may become necessary but for now we are telling people, stay home, engage in social distancing, protect yourselves, protect our system.”
A number of photos and videos on social media show that a number of people gathered at Vancouver’s English Bay beach.
