Just before 6 o’clock Sunday night, Fort Qu’Appelle RCMP received a complaint of a theft of gas and merchandise from a service station in that community.
A description of the suspects and the vehicle was provided to police. Officers then confirmed the vehicle was stolen earlier that day from Regina.
The same vehicle was involved in another fuel theft around 90 minutes later.
An officer observing traffic on Highway 310 north Balcarres saw a vehicle driving in and out of farmyards.
A traffic stop was attempted, although the vehicle refused to stop. The road then came to a dead-end and the driver made a u-turn avoiding the officer’s attempt to block the road.
A spike belt was then used successfully on Highway 310 to deflate all four tires. The vehicle then continued to proceed at a speed under a 40 kilometres an hour.
One female suspect jumped out of the vehicle and was arrested. The male driver was then arrested after coming to a stop. 2
8 year-old Thomas Chartland of Regina faces a number of charges including theft under $5 thousand dollars. The female was released with no charges.
