For the first time, Saskatchewan RCMP officers have arrested and charged people during the COVID-19 Pandemic for failing to follow isolation protocols under the Public Health Act. Early in the morning last Friday, Loon Lake RCMP responded to a report of a suspicious person knocking on the door of a residence in Loon Lake. When they arrived, they were told of a vehicle associated with the person. Meadow Lake officers spotted it and were joined in the chase by other detachments. Police allege the suspects were throwing things out of the vehicle, one of which police say was a bag of firearms. Several people jumped out of the vehicle during the chase and were all arrested. When the vehicle eventually hit the ditch, the remaining occupants were arrested. Police say they recovered a number of firearms, narcotics and stolen property. Eleven people were arrested and face a variety of firearms charges, as well as charges of Flight from Police, Property Obtained by Crime, and Failing to Comply with the Public Health Order. Seven have been remanded to appear in Meadow Lake Provincial Court today (Mon). The rest were released to appear in Loon Lake Provincial Court in July.
