Around 3:15 Sunday afternoon, a man and a dog were spotted in the river by the Chief Mistawasis Bridge. The man was suffering from hypothermia as officers, fire fighters and Medavie Health Services carried him to safety. Saskatoon Police say the pathways to the river were extremely icy and one of the officers suffered an injured ankle. The dog was successfully pulled from the river and is doing well.
But the afternoon of rescues didn’t end there for the Saskatoon Fire Department. Firefighters were told of a person needing to be rescued from the trail system at the Sutherland Dog Park. A low angle rope rescue was performed to get the person up the riverbank. Medavie then took over and transported him to hospital.
