Another local staple of the sports community has been forced to cancel its 2020 event.
The Saskatchewan Marathon was slated to be held May 31 through the streets of Saskatoon and area, but the Saskatoon Road Runners Association, who operate the annual event, will not be to hold the event at all in 2020 because of the novel coronavirus outbreak. 2020 SASKATCHEWAN MARATHON CANCELLED
Saskatoon, SK – The 2020 Saskatchewan Marathon has been cancelled due to increased COVID-19 concerns. Saskatchewan Marathon Race Director, Kim Ali says, “Our goal is to deliver a fantastic first-class race experience each year. It is evident that this is no longer possible on May 31 and we are unable to postpone to a later date in 2020.”
The Saskatchewan Marathon is operated by the Saskatoon Road Runners Association, a non-profit organization led by a volunteer board of directors and supported by more than 400 volunteers. SRRA President Shona Iverson says “It is important for everyone to do all we can to protect our community and the Saskatoon Road Runners Association believes that this is the responsible choice. The health and safety of our runners, volunteers, fans, stakeholders, suppliers and the public at large is always of highest priority.”
