Thursday the Ministry of Health announced 8 new, confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Saskatchewan bringing the provincial total to 184. That is the lowest number of cases reported in a day in a week.
The government says there are people across the province not following the public health order which requires anyone returning to the country from travel, including the United States, to self isolate. That also applies to anyone who has been exposed to someone with COVID-19.
The province stresses this is not the time to become complacent with precautions to prevent the spread of COVID-19, that it is as important as ever to stay home as much as possible and practice social distancing.
Four people are currently in hospital, with three receiving inpatient care in Saskatoon. One person is in the intensive care unit in Regina.
Nine cases are the result of local transmission, while the rest are travel-related or cluster-related due to exposure at mass gatherings.
Ninety of the cases are from the Saskatoon area, 39 from Regina, 37 from the north, nine from the central region, six from the south and three from the far north.
To date more than 10 thousand COVID-19 tests have been performed in the province. Saskatchewan has the second highest rate of testing per capita in Canada.
Two deaths from COVID-19 occurred Sunday in Saskatchewan. Those are the first fatalities in the province from the pandemic.
