Canada’s Employment Minister says federal officials have been working as fast as they can, processing employment insurance claims from people laid off due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Speaking at the daily Ottawa briefing by video link, Carla Qualtrough says more than 430 thousand have been processed. They expect to process 400 thousand applications per day from this point forward.

She says that means a backlog of applications will be cleared this week.
