Saskatchewan has recorded its 3rd death from COVID-19. The province says it is a resident aged 80 to 89 who died from complications related to the virus. Two people in their 70s died on Sunday.
As of Wednesday there are 9 new cases of COVID-19 bringing the provincial total to 193. There are four people in hospital in the province with three receiving care in Saskatoon and one person in ICU in Regina.
Twenty four of the cases can be traced back to Christopher Lake snowmobile rally dinner on March 14th. Ninety-four of the cases are from the Saskatoon area, 43 are from Regina, 37 from the north, nine from the central region, seven from the south and three from the far north.
The Ministry of Health says overall in Saskatchewan 87 cases are travellers, 41 are community contacts, 8 have no known exposures and 57 are under investigation by local public health.
Canada’s Chief Public Health Officer Dr. Theresa Tam says there are now 9,017 cases of COVID-19 reported since the pandemic hit Canada, with 105 deaths, an increase of 16 since Tuesday.
She says there are many other people under investigation; some are still awaiting lab results, and some have not yet been tested. 250 thousand people have been tested in Canada. Tam says, even if you haven’t heard of cases in a community, that doesn’t mean there are no cases. She says it will take time to determine when we hit the peak of infections, and the numbers start trending down.
