The Saskatoon Amateur Softball Association is in “glass half-full” mode when it comes to possibly starting their 2020 season.
The S-A-S-A has a schedule set to start May 4 with 39 teams, spread over five divisions, having registered to play.
“We have to have some happy things and some excitement and some new goals to look at (in light of the COVID-19 pandemic),” explained S-A-S-A president Bryan Kosteroski, who doesn’t feel he’s being overly positive or ambitious with hoping to start the season as scheduled. “It is a new world. We’re adapting to it like everybody else, but we’re a sports organization, just like any other sports in Canada. And, they’re preparing, too, so we want to be positive and we want to set some direction and go when we can go.”
Kosteroski says they will follow direction from Softball Canada and Softball Saskatchewan and are in constant contact with them.
The S-A-S-A’s semi-annual meeting that was set for Monday has been pushed back to April 14 and will be done via video conference. As for hosting the New Zealand Junior Men’s team on June 21-22, along with the Canadian Under-14 Girls Championship in late July, Kosteroski says those events havce “no go” dates of May 1 and June 1, respectively, attached to them as of now. The S-A-S-A has hosted 42 national or international events since 1967 and at least one per year since 2013.
