At this point, 17 Saskatchewan healthcare workers have tested positive for COVID-19. Eleven are from doctors and their families attending a bonspiel in Edmonton a few weeks ago.
Of the remaining six, Chief Medical Health Officer, Dr. Saqib Shahab says two work in healthcare but weren’t in direct contact with patients and he knows of three instances where patients went to their healthcare provider, but didn’t clarify they were having respiratory symptoms so masks weren’t used.
Shahab advises everyone to seek advice by phone from your doctor or nurse practitioner, or from a pharmacist if you can. But if you need a clinical assessment, call ahead and describe your symptoms so precautions can be taken.
Premier Scott Moe says there will be a public briefing to update on what the projections look like so far, for COVID-19 in Saskatchewan and how many cases and hospitalizations we may have, but he stresses that there will be a wide range of scenarios.
Real Canadian Superstore says in a Facebook post that an employee at one of their Regina locations has tested positive for the virus. Chief Medical Health Officer, Dr. Saqib Shahab says because of privacy concerns, he couldn’t comment on that but explained that if someone tests positive, the person is interviewed to figure out when the symptoms began and if they worked at that time. Then they work back 2 days to go through all contact possibilities.
If all the contacts are found, there is no reason for a public advisory.
The Golden Mile Real Canadian Superstore closed on Thursday for a thorough cleaning to go along with its regular daily safety regimen. The employee hadn’t worked at the store since last Saturday.
Saskatchewan’s COVID-19 numbers have increased by 13 for a total of 206 as of Thursday.
