Save-On-Foods says it is committing a half a million dollars towards their one million dollar fundraising goal which is aimed at giving kids easier access to school meal supports during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The grocery chain says there is an estimated 1 in five school age children in Canada relying on school-based nutrition programs and school closures means many of them are unsure where their next meal is coming from.
It’s called Toonies for Tummies program. Customers can donate $2 or an equivalent More Rewards points at the till and the company will match up to a total of $5-hundred-thousand dollars. The company also says all money raised locally stays local.
