For the fourth straight day, the number of confirmed, new cases of COVID-19 did not surpass the number of people recovered in Saskatchewan.
Between Wednesday’s report and Thursday’s update, the province says 12 people have recovered from the novel coronavirus for a total of 115. On the other hand, seven new cases of COVID-19 bring the total to 278 in Saskatchewan. That means the number of active cases of coronavirus in the province is down by five Thursday to 160.
Once again, the number of deaths in Saskatchewan from COVID-19 holds at three, but there are eight people being treated in hospitals across the province…two of them in intensive care.
Also, the largest one-day number of tests conducted in Saskatchewan occurred between Wednesday and Thursday…1,051…bringing the total number of tests in the province to 16,672. That remains the second-highest rate of testing per capita among the provinces.
Thursday’s breakdown of the confirmed cases of COVID-19 shows 122 of them are travelers, 96 are from community contact, 20 cases have no known exposures and 40 are under investigation by local public health. In addition, 27 cases are health care workers, although the province is quick to caution that the source of the infections may not be related to health care in all instances.
By region, the confirmed case split is 138 in the Saskatoon area, 58 cases from the Regina area, 52 from the north, 15 from the south, 10 from the central region and five cases from the far north.
When it comes to gender, 54% of cases are male and 46% female.
As for the demographic breakdown, 15 cases involve people aged 19 years and under, 120 are in the 20-44 age range, 95 cases are in the 45-64 group and 48 are in the 65-and-over age range.
