Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says parliament is being recalled Saturday for an emergency session to pass his government’s COVID-19 economic aid package.
Trudeau says he’s already reached out to the other parties seeking support for his initiatives, like the wage subsidy, which he hopes to fast track. He calls it the biggest economic measures Canada has seen since World War II. The Prime Minister says his daily update will be from the floor of the House of Commons on Saturday, and added that for the first time in weeks he would be taking time off Sunday and Monday from his daily updates, to spend time with family.
Emergency Measures Act Being Discussed but Unlikely to Be Used
The Prime Minister was asked if the federal government was going to enact the emergency measures act. He answered that nothing is off the table, but it is the government’s hope that the act will not have to be used, ever. Trudeau suggests, collaboration and coordination efforts between provinces and territories to move forward during the pandemic makes it unlikely the act would have to be used, which is the preference of the federal government.
