The Federal Government has reportedly struck a deal on a wage subsidy bill that is expected to be passed during an emergency meeting of parliament Saturday.
More details are expected on the wage subsidy bill throughout the day, with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau expected to address the nation from the House of Commons.
Conservative Leader Andrew Scheer, says when they received the bill they immediately went to work. Scheer suggests the original proposal would have seen businesses find out if they qualify half way through the benefit period. He says thanks to conservative suggestions businesses will now find out if they qualify upfront, allowing businesses and charities more certainty, which is a better policy in these times.
Scheer says the conservatives are also calling on the Federal Government to rebate the GST to small businesses that have collected it in the last year, allow businesses to demonstrate 30% losses in alternate ways such as loss of earning, orders or subscriptions, and temporarily allow owner-operators to become wage earning employees so they qualify for the wage subsidy as well.
