The Meewasin Valley Authority is not immune to the effects of the pandemic and has had to close a few sites and postpone the annual spring clean-up campaign.
CEO Andrea Lafond says the downtown office is closed with some staff working remotely and other staff working outdoors. The MVA also had to close the Beaver Creek Conservation Area because the interpretive centre is too small for physical distancing. Most of Meewasin Trail remains open and reminders have been posted about physical distancing along the trail.
When the COVID-19 pandemic was just ramping up, the provincial budget became a spending estimates document, but Lafond says the province is continuing with is annual support. The Parks, Culture and Sport Ministry is funding $500-thousand to Meewasin and the Ministry of Advanced Education, flowing from the University of Saskatchewan included a 1 per cent increase at $653-thousand. The City of Saskatoon announced just over $1.34-million during its budget deliberations last November.
Lafond says MVA also welcomes donations from the public to help with programs and infrastructure maintenance and expansion.
