Mayerthorpe, Alberta RCMP say they were dealing with a suspect who was exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19 when they allege he purposely coughed into the face of an officer. The incident happened Saturday morning when police responded to a complaint of an attempted break and enter to a residence as well as several incidents of mischief to vehicles in the area. Police located a suspect who they took to hospital for a pre-existing condition that needed medical attention. Police say a woman visited the suspect while there and became disruptive and had to be escorted out. Police allege that she too purposely coughed on an officer. A short time later, staff reported that she was breaking into vehicles in the parking lot. She was arrested and police determined that she was also showing signs of COVID-19. Both suspects are facing a variety of charges including Assault on a Police Officer and Mischief.
