The City of Saskatoon says one of their buses and bus drivers provided refuge to a couple who were involved in an altercation on Monday. Two people, a man and woman were on the bus when another male and female got on at Appleby Drive. The four passengers were the only people, other than the driver, on the bus.
City officials say a fight broke out on the bus when it reached Avenue T and 20th Street. The bus driver stopped the bus, opened the doors and allowed everyone out and called in an emergency. They say a man appeared to have been stabbed in the chest and a woman cut in the face. The couple got back on the bus and stayed until paramedics arrived. A 38 year old man and a 32 year old woman were taken to hospital by Medavie Health Services with non-life threatening stab wounds.
Police requested onboard security video but the Air Support Unit had spotted what were believed to be two suspects nearby. Officers were directed to a vehicle where a 14 year old girl was taken into custody while a 21 year old man was rousted out of a backyard in the 100 block of Avenue S South by patrol and canine officers.
Once police had finished their investigation city officials say the bus was sent for a deep cleaning procedure – one that is part of Saskatoon Transit’s protocol anytime bodily fluids are present on a bus.
The 14 year old was released from custody without charges and the 21 year old man faces multiple charges including two counts of aggravated assault.
