The Prime Minister says federal aid is coming for energy companies that have had to slow down, throwing people out of work, and threatening the economy. He says, to help these workers, the federal government will invest $1.7 billion to clean up orphaned and inactive wells in Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia. He says these wells can be detrimental to our environment and to peoples’ health. Another $750 million will be spent on an emission reduction program, and Trudeau says 10 thousand jobs will be saved.
The Prime Minister says Ottawa will make sure provinces get the finances they need to continue to function. Manitoba asked for lower borrowing costs. Trudeau says Finance Canada is looking at it. He says the Bank of Canada has taken measures that have had a significant impact for provinces.
The PM says the border with the U.S will remain closed for another 30 days to all but essential traffic.
Trudeau says opening the border in the foreseeable future is not likely. He says his government will continue to ensure and protection and safety of Canadians.
