As of Monday morning, there were 36,216 confirmed cases of coronavirus in Canada, with 1,611 deaths. Over 555,000 people have now been tested for the virus across the country
During the daily briefing on Ottawa, chief public health officer Dr. Theresa Tam was asked that given some shortages of personal protective equipment, it if could be re-used, rather than discarded if new supplies can’t be secured. Dr. Tam explained options like sterilization of respirators and other PPEs are currently being looked at.
Dr. Tam, also said if people are questioning the continued social distancing and restrictions, that are currently ongoing, you need only look to New York City on what could potentially happen.
“Tens of thousands of people being severely impacted over a very short period of time, is not what we want. So I think, take this very seriously and keep up the momentum that we’ve gained.”
Dr. Tam adds people should not let the positive efforts and results seen across the country be squandered. She says if we do not tread carefully to the next stage, this virus will come back.
